This is the second W resort hotel in the world, after their successful W Maldives. W Retreat and Spa is a large project with 80 villas and 4 levels hotel bedrooms. Still maintaining the widely known W hotel's character, the aim of the overall design (including lighting) is to incorporate the "twisted" design in a resort ambiance. The challenge is to keep "over the edge" design in balance so not to over do while still bring the whimsical air. Lighting design proposed combined local wisdom, materials, characters but carried out by means of current technology, incorporating new light sources and sophisticated lighting control. Pictures next show some design and mock up result, while the hotel itself is expected to be finished end of 2010.
